CONTRIBUTIONS, REPORTS AND COMMENTARIES
(October 6, 2006) Joint Venture versus the AACSB Maintenance Report Which Story Are We To Believe? The latest issue of Joint Venture, the CoB’s vanity public relations publication is out, and it is a doozie. While Joint Venture will no doubt be the impetus for many reports at usmpride.com, one has only to turn to the inside cover to get a glimpse of the disingenuous way that Harold Doty uses his position as Dean.

(October 6, 2006) The Doty/Niroomand Self-Promotion Magazine An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research Credentials This Special Report looks at some of the items in the Fall 2006 issue of Joint Venture. We focus on the “Faculty Research” page in this installment of our series. We start with a few observations on CoB Dean Harold Doty. Consider the insert below:
(October 9, 2006) Dean Doty's Unfortunate Tendency to Neologism "We shall consider the details of Dean Doty’s memorandum in response to our grievance one issue a day. (Click here for Doty’s response.) Our thought for the day: Dean Doty has single-handedly rewritten the Faculty Handbook. Apparently he believes he is the legislative, judicial, and executive branches of governance. Doty’s addendum to the Faculty Handbook includes the Minimal Sufficiency Doctrine. Grievances must “meet the minimum sufficiency requirements for initiating a faculty grievance” as understood in Dean Doty’s mind."
(October 10, 2006) Minimal Sufficiency or Adequate Evidence?  "Consider the second installment reviewing Dean Doty’s memorandum in response to our grievance.  He wrote, “In summary, you have failed to present objective evidence that provisions of the Faculty Handbook were violated." (Decide for yourself whether Dean Doty’s claim is accurate. See our grievance pp. 2-4. Evidence for claims in the grievance includes documents written by Drs. Carter and Doty.)"  For additional documents referenced in this opinion piece:  Carter memo, Doty email to Provost Grimes.
Over the past several weeks, usmpride.com researchers have offered evidence and raised a number of questions concerning Dr. Doty's Bureau of Business and Economic Research.  Although troubling questions continue to mount,  the beneficiaries of the BBER, Dr and Mrs. Doty and Dr. Gunther remain silent.  Once again, we invite each of them to join the dialogue, including providing an explanation of any errors or misunderstandings in our reports.  We invite anyone with an interest in an open university to join the dialogue.  For more reports on the BBER see, Quotable Doty, part 2; part 3; part 4; Does the “B” Stand for Boondoggle? (October 10, 2006) Is the BBER Feathering Gunther’s Nest? "... So, is Gunther taking his $150,000 (approx) salary+fringes from the CoB, funded through the generosity of Mississippi taxpayers, and providing professional services to the citizens of another state? It appears so. Gunther’s presentation to the Baldwin County (AL) Economic Development Alliance presumably was designed to benefit businesses in the Baldwin County area of Alabama.  What was the benefit to South Mississippi? We would assume nothing, unless South Mississippi businesses are able to secure a video tape of the presentation and can get some of the “expertise” that they are partially paying for through Gunther’s $120,000 salary. ..".
(October 11, 2006) A Case Study in Failure: Duane Harold Doty "In an attempt to determine just how bad Duane Harold Doty is as a manager, we cite some facts that are without dispute. Doty has a Ph.D. in management. Doty has taught management courses at no less than two institutions of higher learning. Doty claims to be a human resources strategy expert. Why is it, then, that Doty is so poor as a dean, a position that is clearly a managerial position?  ..".  .See also, Quotable Doty

(October 13, 2006) CoB Administrators in Their Own Words "...The quotes above, from the writings of D. Harold Doty, are quite interesting. As pointed out at usmpride.com, Doty believes himself to be like the Founding Fathers, all wrapped up in a single package. He interprets the Faculty Handbook, and out comes the 'Minimal Sufficiency Doctrine.'  He makes a cursory examination of the 19 September 2006 events in the EFIB, and decides to stand firm behind the will of the people. He is the executive, legislative and judicial branches of CoB governance, all packaged into one person. Who knows, if Doty had been around in the late 18th/early 19th Centuries, maybe our republic wouldn’t have needed all of the guys you see surrounding Doty below. ..".
(October 14, 2006) Harold Doty at “The Rock?” "This Special Report examines some interesting expenditures made by CoB Dean Harold Doty in the fall of 2004. The screen below shows one of Doty’s AmEx Corporate Account Statements from the fall of 2004. ...  One of the remaining charges, $120.00, appears to be a September 2004 purchase of of Southern Miss tickets. Does this represent the purchase of football tickets? A football season ticket package? Are these symphony tickets? As the insert below, taken from “Doty on the Move,” indicates, Doty was reimbursed about $300 for expenses relating to his trip to New Orleans for the New Orleans Bowl...".  For more about  Dean Doty see Quotable Doty.
(October 24, 2006) The BBER Sinecure? An Examination of Director Bill Gunther’s Teaching Schedule "... Gunther’s stake in the BBER comes through comes from receipt of the 3-hour course release for “serving” as the BBER’s PhD economist and Director. To help things along, EFIB Chair Carter also appears to be providing Gunther with a teaching schedule that will facilitate Gunther’s movements between Hattiesburg and Josephine, AL. In other words, Carter’s teaching assignments appear to be facilitating for the Gunthers' 3-day weekends near the beach on the AL-FL line...".  For more information on the BBER, see  Is the BBER Feathering Gunther’s Nest?; Underfunded Centers and Full Time Fundraisers; Quotable Doty, part 2; Quotable Doty, part 3; Does the “B” Stand for Boondoggle? (October 27, 2006) Moving Down by Moving Up? It is quite surprising that Doty did not engineer a remote location for the DOS residents outside of Greene Hall, such as in the Cochrane Center or the International Building. That move would have ensured that none of the DOS members would have had to field a student question or a faculty complaint (other than the string of grievances that have and will be filed over the next few weeks/months) until January. Harold Doty and Farhang Niroomand are running scared, and every step they take is another step toward proving that they are unfit to lead the CoB.
